Dior, Gucci, AERIN, Gisou, and Azzaro: Five Product Photography Approaches from Spring Beauty Campaigns.

Luxury beauty campaigns often nail the concept but stumble in execution. Here's what worked, what didn't, and the technical details that separate polished from AI-adjacent.

Dior Beauty spring collection: Pastel eyeshadows and floral styling

Spring isn't over yet, but Dior Beauty (@diorbeauty)'s limited edition collection is already here. The concept is beautiful—makes me want to go out in a daisy field for a picnic and enjoy the sunshine. Both products and flower props support this idea. I'm especially captivated by the design of the eyeshadows and that little ladybug detail.

Gucci beauty: Reflective realism in glossy lip tint photography

This shot from Gucci Beauty (@guccibeauty) by Kate Jackling (@kate_takes_pictures) reads as a classic luxury beauty image: the main product shot plus strong branding (GUCCI repeats in the frame). The intent is obvious: burn the logo into your brain and tie it to sensorial pleasure. There are so many things at once: glossy texture with engraved logos that become the texture of the product and the product itself. But what makes it look super realistic like a one shot is the reflection of the lids on the first two tints.

AERIN Beauty fragrance: When perfectionism goes too far

I'm not sure what's going on with this shot from AERIN Beauty (@aerinbeauty),but something about it gives off an AI-generated feel. Maybe it's the hyperrealistic flowers in the background, or the way the glass is rendered. I can't quite put my finger on it. The label work on the two bottles on the left also isn't clean. AERIN has produced some really beautiful fragrance photography in the past, so this one just doesn't quite hit the same mark for me.

Gisou Tropical Honey Lip Oils: Warm tones and glossy textures

Who is a big fan of the visuals for Gisou (@gisou)'s upcoming Tropical Honey Infused Lip Oils? I am! This is the power of strong creative direction with great technical execution. They only posted a few photos and I want to buy it right now. So what's going on? First, it's color: warm muted tones which seamlessly match with the colors of the products and tropical pineapple and coconut. Second is the light. It's meant to be bright to imitate sunlight, but the fact that highlights are a bit muted, plus wavy shapes of the products plus flowing glossy textures of the lip oil in the background, gives off this wet tropical yummy feel. These photos are so good I feel like I need a vacation somewhere in the tropics.

Azzaro Wanted: Golden water reflections and precise metallic lighting

Another great shot for today from Azzaro Parfums (@azzaro_parfums) by Christophe Jager (@jager_christophe). The golden water is so sensory satisfying and perfectly mimics the packaging. I love the light on the gold cap, black bottle, and water splash, all beautifully exposed with good separation.

The one thing that bugs me: they're not interacting enough with each other. Maybe leave some of that warm water reflection on the bottles to make them belong together in the composition. Otherwise they just look Photoshopped. Also interesting that there's no reflection of the black parfum in the golden bottle. A small detail, but it would help sell the reality of the scene.

Still, the lighting is gorgeous and the concept works. Just needs that extra connection between elements to make it feel cohesive.
